Bantams Open New Stadium With Offensive Flourish
IN THE first game at the Bantams’ new baseball field in Hartford, Trinity College didn’t let Eastern Connecticut State spoil the day. Trinity (5-4) has scored 35 runs in its last two games.
Trinity broke open a 2-2 game with nine runs in the fourth inning. Rodriguez drove home senior DH Jake Bennett for the go-ahead run with a double, and Bennett added a two-run double later in the inning.
The debut of Trinity’s Murren Family Field/DiBenedetto Stadium came five days early, as the game was moved to Hartford from Eastern Connecticut due to unplayable field conditions in Willimantic.
Eastern scored three runs in the fifth, highlighted by an RBI double by sophomore Alex Parkos, but Trinity scored seven times over the next three innings, including four runs in the seventh on RBI singles by junior Cooper Mooney and Rodriguez, as well as three walks, a hit batsman and a Warrior fielding error.
Trinity had trailed 2-0 entering its second turn at bat, as Parkos drove in a run in the first inning with a two-out single and the Warriors scored in the second on a double play with a runner on third.
Trinity tied it at 2-2 on an RBI grounder by Bennett in the second inning and an RBI double by sophomore John Stamatis in the third.
